Hopefully this is the question that anyone who is contemplating buying a water filter or water purification system should be asking themselves. The answer however, is not so simple. Hours of research on the internet, time spent listening to "sales pitches" and watching frightening demonstrations showing how "bad" our drinking water is, has left me totally confused, even the experts do not have the answers.
Certain facts from whatever source, seem to point to the same conclusions,
Water from large municipal supplies in South Africa is "safe". We do not read headlines in the paper that say someone died from drinking tap water.
Bulk water suppliers have to ensure that the water they supply, meets certain minimum standards.
Chlorine is used to kill most bacteria in municipal water supplies. Some organisms are resistant to chlorine and chlorine generally makes the water taste unpleasant.
Nearly all water occurring naturally from whatever source is subject to the possibility of contamination from industrial and agricultural chemicals and by- products. This worldwide problem will only get worse.
Young Children and people suffering from any type of immune deficiency would be at a higher risk, when drinking tap water.
In many cases bottled water is no better than tap water.
Bottled water can be a life saver in emergency situations.( Quake, Flood, and Lost in the dessert)
All naturally occurring water contains various minerals; it is these minerals, in differing amounts that give water from different sources a unique taste.
WE ALL NEED WATER TO LIVE- but even here the experts can't agree exactly how much.
The list goes on and on, one thing is certain, if you are the average man or women in the street, the more research you do, the more confused you become. "Analysis paralysis" sets in, and you delay making any choice or worse, make the wrong one.
So, where to from here?
Decide why you want to improve your tap water;
1. I want it to taste better. 2. I want it to look better. (remove any turbidity if it exists)
3. I am concerned about the possible long term health risks associated with consuming various dangerous chemicals and metals that may be present in my tap water.
4. My bank account is taking a severe beating from me consuming vast quantities of "premium" European, bottled water or any bottled water in fact.
If you answered yes to any of the above, then you will need to start looking for some form of water filter or purifier.
It was after going through the above process that I decided to add a water filter to Bautec's existing product line-up. We investigated various options and decided on the Aquasana water enhancement product.
Manufactured by Sun water systems in the USA, the product was of high quality and its claims are substantiated with certified test data. The units are aesthetically attractive and compact. It addressed the concerns I have about water quality at a reasonable price. After all, at the end of the day it's value that counts.
So, now you have 3 options.
1. Spend the next week surfing the internet in pursuit of the "perfect", cheapest, most expensive or most persuasive sales pitch. Once you are fully confused, you can always return to aquasana.co.za
2. Buy an Aquasana water filter, in which case I thank you.
3. Do nothing. Enjoy your tap water and thank you for visiting our site.
Thank you,

A humorous, but insightful quote, from an American national radio personality went;
Throughout the years man has come up with many ways to measure things.Noah used cubits to measure the Arc.We use carats to measure gemstones.We use lbs. to measure our weight.We use inches, feet and yards to measure distance.And to measure the intelligence of consumers... they put water in plastic bottles... to see who would buy it." PS. Point-of-Use water treatment‚ with a quality in home water filtration system‚ is by far the most economical‚ the most convenient and the most effective way of producing healthy, great tasting water. Filtering out the chlorine‚ lead and other contaminants with a quality home water filtration system‚ at the point of use‚ just prior to consumption‚ is the only way to know for sure about the quality of your water.
